American Killifish Association (AKA)

Founded in 1962, the American Killifish Association remains one of the premier specialty fish organizations in the world. Its membership occupies a continuum from new hobbyists seeking information on captive care and propagation to professional ichthyologists doing cutting edge research in killifish systematics. The bi-monthly Journal of the American Killifish Association embodies a correspondingly eclectic sensibility, mixing articles on a diversity of subjects, from recipes for home-made paste foods to the descriptions of new species. A monthly Business News Letter features a Fish and Egg listing, along with affiliate club news, video tape and special publication offerings, and assorted membership news.

An annual convention each Memorial Day weekend is hosted by an affiliate club, and features a multi-class fish competition and auction, seminars by noted killifish experts, fish sales, and ancillary activities such as local collecting trips.

The AKA Website is a valuable resource, offering a picture gallery, show announcements, on-line help, an evolving index to JAKA, and information on a range of practical topics.
